アンダーソンは、スコットランドで生まれましたが、幼児期をアルゼンチンで過ごしました。彼女は主にアール・ヌーボーの児童書のイラストレーターとして知られていますが、エッチングやグリーティング・カードの仕事も含め非常に多作な画家でした。彼女の絵のスタイルは、同時代に活躍をしたチャールズ・ロビンソンや、ジェシー・マリオン・キング等の絵に影響を受け、色々と比較の対象にされた様ですが、同時にお互いに良き競争相手となりました。彼女の作品は、エドワード朝期の終わり1910年頃に絶頂期を迎えます。1912年には、同性愛者“コルボ男爵”の本の挿絵などで19世紀末に成功し、又彼女の絵にも影響を与えた画家のアラン・ライトと結婚し、バークシャイアに居を構えました。
夫ライトは、彼女の作品に対する協力を惜しむことなく継続し彼女の成功に大きく貢献したことで知られています。本コレクションの中にもご夫妻が一緒に画かれた書があります。
