本コレクションは、19世紀末から、近代における多数の独立共和国の出現に至るまでのアフリカの歴史と発展を多方向から捉えるという意志のもとに収集されました。
旅行・探検・歴史・風習・地理・民俗・考古・伝記・宗教・布教・医療・政治・経済・社会学等に関するトピックがコレクションの対象となっています。本コレクションに収集された書籍の特徴的なこととして言えることは、写真・挿絵本が多いということです。
