The advance state bulletins on manufactures for the 48 states, the District of Columbia, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico are incorporated in this volume. Data are presented for principal industries ranked by value of products, 1919; persons engaged in manufacturing industries, 1919, 1914, and 1909; average number of wage earners for selected industries by sex and age, for the state and for cities with more than 10,000 inhabitants; wage earners, by months, and by prevailing hours of labor per week; size of establishments by average number of wage earners and value of products; character of ownership, etc. The general tables include a comparative summary for selected industries and for cities., 1919, 1914, and 1909; and a detailed statement of all industries combined and specified industries, in 1919, showing number of establishments, persons engaged in industry, wage earners, expenses, value of products, value added by manufacture, power, etc. The reports for Hawaii and Puerto Rico also include separate sections with statistics of quarries. No information as to mines and quarries appears for Delaware, Mississippi, Nebraska, or District of Columbia because their mineral production is quite insignificant.
