The most important British Botanical journal of its days and

a showcase for the talents of some of the greatest botanical artists.

plates, 16 extra coloured or tinted lithographs and 12 unclolored

lithographs. Bound in contemporary half calf with original flyleaves.　 1,100,000

One of the finest chromolithographed plant and flower journals

ever published. Especially the first volumes are rare and beautifully

illustrated. The extra plates depict garden architecture, palms,

glasshouses etc. Some very few plates have light marginal foxing.

on 2 forms, sexual relations of 3 forms of the genus Linum and

Lythrum Salicaria, movements and habits of climbing plants,

character and hybrid-like nature of dimorphic and trimorphhic plants,

specific difference between Primula Veris and Primula Vulgaris and Elator

等が掲載されている。また、J.Ball のSpicilegium Flora Maroccanae

(1877/78)が２０枚のリトグラフ付きで掲載されている。

Note: Several plates in volumes 13-25 are cut short with sometimes

a bit of loss. Some volumes with a vague library stamp on title,

but not on the plates.

Rare set of famous Belgium illustrated horticultural journal published

in Gent. This journal was published upto vol.40(1914).

9. Royal Botanical Garden in Calcutta: Annals.

14 volumes. Calcutta, 1887-1942. Bound in 33.

All plate volumes, the appendices and the 150 Anniversary volume

present in the original edition. With over 2200 lithographs, partly

hand-coloured. Bound in recent hardcover cloth binding with gilt

Note: Each volume was printed in a different number, usually between

200-350 copies. Two plate volumes have some heavy foxing and one atlas

with marginal foxing on most plates, otherwise very good with only

occasional spotting and one text volume in reprint only.

The Anniversary volume with some small wormholes. Institution stamps

mostly on first blanks.

イギリスの医者・植物学者William Roxburg(1751-1815)がインドのカルカッタ

に創設した植物園の紀要。非常な稀覯書で古書市場に出るのも稀なもの。

Hookerを初め多くの著名な植物学者の論文を掲載している。同植物園はアジア

では最古の植物園として知られている。
