Paris, Typographia Fratris Regis (Didot junior), 1788. Large 4to. Contemporary dark green morocco, spine richly gilt with red title-label, richly gilt ornamental border on sides, richly gilt inner dentelles, silk over paste downs and fly leaves, fly leaves surrounded with richly gilt dark green borders in the same style as the dentelles, g.e. (VEGLIO). With full-page engraved portrait of Christ by Klauber, and woodcut coat-of-arms on title. (4), 338, (2 blank) pp. Fine Large-paper copy. Slightly waterstained in last page.
トマス・ア･ケンピス（1380-1471）の主著「キリストに倣いて」の最も稀覯で美麗な版です。 Joseph Valartt による翻訳本。 De Backer によれば、200部のみ印刷されたが殆どは失われていると記録されています。すべて、ヴェラム紙に印刷されています。ヴェラム紙はフランスの Joseph Michel Montgolfier 兄弟が発明したものです。著名な印刷業者 François-Ambroise Didot により1780年に使用が開始されました。このヴェラム紙を使って Joseph Michel Montgolfier 兄弟が1783年に世界で初めての熱気球を飛ばしたことは余り知られておりません。本書に使用された活字は Henrico Didot によりデザインされたローマン・タイプのものが使用されています。
