America's Historical Newspapers
Imagine searching more than 1,000 U.S. historical newspapers published during the past four centuries, including titles from all 50 present states, with the click of a mouse. Through partnerships with the American Antiquarian Society (AAS), Library of Congress, Wisconsin Historical Society and others, Readex has created the single most comprehensive digital archive of American historical newspapers. By providing unprecedented Web-based access to digitized versions of this essential primary source material, Early American Newspapers, Series I, II and III enable researchers to quickly and easily explore virtually every aspect of early America.

Early American Newspapers, Series I, 1690-1876
Based on Clarence S. Brigham’s “History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820" and other authoritative bibliographies, this digital edition includes over 700 titles and more than one million pages.Focusing largely on the 18th century, this digital edition is based on Clarence S. Brigham's "History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820" and other authoritative bibliographies. A comprehensive resource providing unprecedented access to the nation's past, Early American Newspapers, Series I enables users to easily view, magnify, print and save items.

Early American Newspapers, Series II, 1758-1900
With over 200 18th- and 19th-century newspapers totaling more than one million pages, Series II focuses on the period between 1820 and 1860, when the number of American newspapers began to rise dramatically.During this time period, westward expansion and the penny press helped create thousands of local newspapers, and daily editions replaced many weeklies. Also, interestingly, the format of newspapers was transformed by an increasing emphasis on society, industry, scientific advances, investigative journalism and stories of human interest. Like Series III, Series II provides in-depth coverage of the mid-19th century, including the Civil War.

Early American Newspapers, Series III, 1829-1922
With over 125 additional 19th- and 20th-century newspapers totaling more than one million pages, Series III focuses on the period between 1861 to 1900, including Civil War, Reconstruction, the Progressive Era and beyond.

These unique, fully searchable resources form the largest digital newspaper collection of its kind, perfectly complementing the printed materials in other Readex digital Archive of Americana collections, including books, pamphlets, broadsides, government publications and much more.

All three Early American Newspapers series share the same America's Historical Newspapers interface. Together they comprise hundreds of thousands of issues from more than 1,000 titles, totaling more than four million pages.
